Meet Our Guides

Capt. Ron Ridgeway

Matagorda, TX

Being a licensed Fly Fishers International casting instructor, a Texas Guide, and a Coast Guard Master, I bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and experience to every teaching session and guided trip.

Join me for an invigorating day of guiding, typically spanning 6-7 enriching hours on the serene Matagorda waters. Throughout this excursion, you’ll be engaged with hands-on fishing practices, gain insights from useful tips and proven techniques, and hopefully, land some thrilling catches that will be the talk of the town!

Our targets are the elusive Redfish, Specked trout, Black Drum, Flounder, Sheephead, and Skip Jack, found in the shallow waters of the Matagorda Bays. The sheer excitement of spotting, stalking, and casting to tailing or cruising fish is an experience that will etch itself into your memory, forever reminding you of the thrilling pursuit that fly fishing truly is. The bays of Matagorda comprise over 800 square miles of some of the best fishing on the Texas Coast. We fish both East and West bay. Where we go depends on the weather, tide and where we’re finding catchable fish. Every day is a new day on the bay. The thing that is constant is the unspoiled beauty.

If you’ve ever watched a fly angler cast and wondered how those beautiful loops are formed, you’re not alone. At first glance, fly casting can seem like a complex dance, but I assure you, it’s a dance anyone can learn. Learning with me, you’ll discover that the challenge of fly casting isn’t as daunting as it appears. We’ll walk through every detail – from grip to casting stance, to the rhythm and timing of your cast. Together, we’ll turn the intimidating into the achievable, and soon enough, you’ll be casting loops like a pro.

Our adventure vessel, the Beavertail Vengeance Skiff, is specifically designed for shallow-water navigation – the ideal craft for exploring the waters of the Matagorda Bays. This top-tier skiff promises a smooth, comfortable ride and is equipped with all the features needed for a successful day of fly fishing.
